I’ve just been part of the first TeleHealth consultation on Tamborine. It was arranged between Dr Himali Jayasekera and Dr Senator, a diabetic specialist. TeleHealth aims to give people in remote areas access to specialist services. My specialist decided during the recent floods, when access to Tamborine became a problem, that it would be preferable for me to go onto TeleHealth consultations in future.
The technology needs to be booked between the specialist and the doctor, though Skype can be used in the absence of doctor servicing. Some preliminary data may be necessary depending on the specialist. For example blood tests, blood pressure and sugar readings, weight, height etc. It was certainly fast and efficient and preferable to driving to the coast for a consultation, with a saving of greenhouse gases to boot.
